Does JustShowMe upload my screenshots or recordings anywhere?
Not unless you ask it to. By default everything runs in your browser — screenshots save to your Downloads folder and recordings stay on your machine, and no data is ever sent to us (we have no servers that receive your content). The one exception is opt-in sharing: if you connect Notion, Linear, or Slack, a capture you choose to share uploads directly from your device to your own workspace on that service. It still never passes through a JustShowMe server.
How do the Notion, Linear, and Slack sharing integrations work?
They're optional and off by default. In JustShowMe's settings you can connect your own Notion, Linear, or Slack account; once connected, the share menu can send a screenshot or GIF straight to that workspace. The upload goes directly from your device to the service using your account — never through a JustShowMe server — and the connection tokens are stored locally on your device, encrypted. Disconnect any time from the same settings screen, which removes the stored tokens. If you never connect a service, nothing ever leaves your device.
Do I need an account to use JustShowMe?
No account is required for the Free tier. All tools work immediately after installing the extension. A Pro subscription requires an account only for billing and licence management.
Why isn't the toolbar appearing on this page?
A small number of pages restrict content scripts — Chrome's own pages (chrome://), the Chrome Web Store, and some PDF viewers. This is a Chrome security restriction that no extension can bypass. Try the extension on a regular website.
How do I cancel my Pro subscription?
You can cancel at any time from your billing portal. Email support@robn.studio and we'll send you a direct link. Your Pro features remain active until the end of your billing period.
The recording stopped before I expected — why?
Free tier recordings are capped at 60 seconds. Upgrade to Pro for unlimited recording length. Also ensure you haven't navigated away from the captured tab, as this ends the session.
Can I use JustShowMe on multiple computers?
Yes. Install the Chrome extension on each browser — your settings sync via Chrome's built-in sync. The Windows desktop app can be installed on any Windows machine. Your Pro licence covers all instances of the extension and the desktop app.
What's the difference between the Chrome extension and the Windows desktop app?
The Chrome extension works inside your browser and lets you annotate any webpage, capture full-page screenshots, and record tab video. The Windows desktop app overlays your entire screen — so you can annotate documents, other applications, videos, remote desktops, and anything else visible on your display, not just web pages. Both are free to use and share the same Pro licence.
How do I export as GIF?
GIF export is a Pro feature. Start a recording, stop it, and the export panel will offer both WebM video and GIF options. GIF encoding runs locally in your browser — no upload required.
The blur tool isn't covering the area precisely — help?
Click and drag to draw the blur region. You can draw multiple blur regions before capturing. If precision is critical, use the snip tool to crop the area first, then apply blur. Undo (Ctrl+Z) removes the last blur region.
Why doesn't the toolbar, text tool, or keyboard shortcuts work when a pop-up or dialog is open on the page?
Some pop-ups and dialogs on a website take over the page and lock interaction to themselves — a built-in browser behaviour meant to keep you focused on the pop-up. While one is open, the JustShowMe browser extension can be affected, because browsers intentionally stop anything behind the pop-up (including extensions) from receiving clicks and keystrokes. This isn’t a bug in JustShowMe, and it’s not something any browser extension can work around.
What you might notice
- The JustShowMe toolbar isn’t clickable over the popup — with full-page browser dialogs (the kind that dim the whole screen) it can even be hidden behind the dialog.
- You can’t type with the text tool when a dialog is open, and keyboard shortcuts stop working over the modal — because the pop-up is holding onto the keyboard.
- Your annotations can look hidden behind the pop-up that’s sitting on top of the page.
What to do
- Close or dismiss the pop-up first, then annotate the page as normal.
- To capture the pop-up itself, use JustShowMe’s snip / screenshot capture and annotate the saved image instead — the image isn’t affected by the pop-up.
- Mouse drawing (pen, arrows, shapes, highlighter, blur) usually keeps working on website pop-ups, so you can still circle or point at things even when typing is blocked.
- For stubborn cases, use the JustShowMe desktop app — it draws over your whole screen rather than inside the web page, so it can annotate on top of any pop-up or dialog.
In short: if the toolbar, text tool, or shortcuts stop responding, there’s almost certainly a pop-up open — close it (or screenshot it to annotate) and everything works normally again. If it keeps happening on one particular site, email support@robn.studio with the URL and we’ll take a look.
